Colbie Caillat
Colbie Marie Caillat ( /ˈkoʊlbi kəˈleɪ/ (help·info)) (born May 28, 1985) is an American pop singer-songwriter and guitarist from Malibu, California. She debuted in 2007 with Coco, which included hit singles "Bubbly", "Realize", and "The Little Things". In 2008, she recorded a duet with Jason Mraz, "Lucky". Caillat released her second album, Breakthrough, in August 2009.
On December 2, 2009, Breakthrough was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards. She was also nominated twice for Best Pop Collaboration, for her featured vocals on Jason Mraz's "Lucky" and her background vocals and writing on Taylor Swift's "Breathe".
Coco Lee (李玟)
Coco Lee (Chinese: 李玟; pinyin: Lǐ Wén), born on January 17, 1975,[4] also known in America as Ferren Lee-Kelly, is a Chinese pop singer, songwriter, record producer and actress from Hong Kong.[5] She is the only Asian artist to have multiple top-three singles in the MTV Asia Hitlist. "Do You Want My Love" also entered the music charts in America and the entire album, Just No Other Way gave Coco a break in the English market.[6] Coco speaks Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese and American English fluently.
Coco had first gained recognition when she won first runner-up in the 1993 New Talent Singing Awards with her rendition of Whitney Houston's "Run to You"[7]. A local record company noticed that Coco's voice stood out aside from being the only contestant to sing in English. The following day, Capital Artists asked her to sign a contract with their label.
Coco is the first Chinese person to perform in the Oscars, singing the Academy Award nominee for Best Original Song, "A Love Before Time", from the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, in the 73rd Academy Awards in Los Angeles[9]. Coco also provided the voice of Mulan in the Mandarin version of Disney's animated feature of the same name.
Coco's music has been influenced by genres ranging from pop, hip-hop, R'n'B, adult contemporary and soul. While her releases have often received mixed critical reception, she is renowned for her East-meets-West music and melismatic vocals. She has also been nicknamed the "Asian Pop Diva" by the media and due to her worldwide success, critics called Coco the "Best-selling Female Artist" of the continent.
In 2001, Asia Weekly magazine named Coco as one of the most powerful people in Asia on their Power 50 list.
Cliff Richard
Sir Cliff Richard OBE (born Harry Rodger Webb on 14 October 1940[1]) is an Indian born English singer-songwriter and entrepreneur.
With his backing group The Shadows, Richard dominated the British popular music scene in the late 1950s and early 1960s (ie the 5 year "Before-Beatles" period: 1958-1962), before and during The Beatles' first year in the charts in 1963. John Lennon once claimed that "before Cliff and the Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music."... - The Times. Nov 30th 2005.
A conversion to Christianity and subsequent softening of his music led to his having more of a pop than rock image. He never achieved the same impact in the United States despite several chart singles there such as Devil Woman, but he has remained a popular music, film, and television personality in the United Kingdom and he retains a following in other countries.
During six decades, Cliff Richard has charted many singles, and holds the record (with Elvis Presley) as the only act to make the UK singles charts in all of its decades (1950s–2000s). He is the only singer to have had a number one single in the UK in, officially, five consecutive decades, doing so from the 1950s through to the 1990s (though if you discount digital downloads and only count CDs, he has had a number one single in the UK in six consecutive decades, from the 1950s through to the 2000s -- see the first paragraph of 'Works: Chart accomplishments' below --, a record generally considered impossible to be beaten). In the British charts, Richard has had more than 130 [single], albums and EPs make the top 20, more than any other artist. He has sold more than 250 million records.
Ciara
Ciara Princess Harris (born October 25, 1985), is an American recording artist, actress, and fashion model. Born in Austin, Texas, she traveled around the world during her childhood, only to land in Atlanta, Georgia where she met music producer, Jazze Pha. With his help, she was signed to LaFace Records. She went on to become one of the world's biggest stars, selling over seven million albums worldwide and becoming one of America's most successful female artists.
Ciara made her debut with the worldwide hit "Goodies" which reached number one in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Her debut album, Goodies, followed and became a success selling over five million copies worldwide. The album also produced two other hits: her second number one in Canada, "1, 2 Step", and "Oh". She released her second album, Ciara: The Evolution, two years later in 2006 and it spawned the worldwide hit, "Like a Boy", and US hits, "Get Up" and "Promise". The album was another success selling over two million copies worldwide. Ciara released her third album Fantasy Ride in 2009, which featured the worldwide hit "Love Sex Magic".
With her success in the music industry, Ciara has received numerous awards and nominations from venues such as the World Music Awards and the Grammy Awards. In addition to being a music artist, Ciara is also a model and an actress.
Chihiro Onitsuka
Chihiro Onitsuka (鬼束 ちひろ Onitsuka Chihiro?) (born October 30, 1980) is a Japanese singer-songwriter. In 2000, Onitsuka released her debut single "Shine" and gained a recognition with its follow-up "Gekkou" which became a smash hit. Insomnia, her first studio album released in following year topped the Japanese Oricon chart and sold more than a million copies. "Memai", one of the singles from her debut album provided her with honor of winning the prize for lyrics of the 43rd Japan Record Awards in 2001.
During her career, Onitsuka has repeatedly brought about troubles that are mostly owing to her physical problem and mental instability. She had put recording career on hold until March 2007, after some confrontations with record labels and management offices during the mid 2000s.
Onitsuka has enjoyed a successful career as one of the most popular Japanese female solo artists during the early 2000s. As of 2009, Onitsuka has released 5 studio albums, 17 singles, 2 compilations and several DVDs, which has sold at least 4.1 million.
